Street Science is an educational outreach program funded by the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation that builds the basic math and science skills necessary to complete a secondary education and GED and lays the foundation for students to obtain competitive skills for high-growth industries in Northern New Mexico. ¡YouthWorks! enhances its educational programming by employing a part-time math and science instructor to implement the Street Science program. ¡YouthWorks! uses electronic and science technology kits to support the curriculum by providing hands-on experience in constructing and studying visible engine models, employing Power House kits to build a house and discover how it is powered, and working with Physics Workshop kits that experiment with machines and the forces of gravity.

¡YouthWorks! incorporates a system approach to learning math and science that supplements the traditional classroom academics of the Compass Learning GED program with hands on experiential activities such as YW's already established service learning program, centered on the Santa Fe River and its dependent subsystems to include the watershed, wildlife, erosion, water conservation, and agriculture.
